Part of the IoTextra series · compatible with IoTsmart and IoTbase · Open Hardware

This module is a member of the IoTextra series, which serves as a fundamental building block of our ecosystem and embodies the Make Things Happy Philosophy. It is engineered to bridge the gap between rapid prototyping and industrial-grade reliability.

Hardware Synergy: The module is compatible with both IoTsmart and IoTbase series.

Software Power: This hardware compatibility unlocks the full potential of the IoTflow platform. It enables you to:

  • Create custom Node-RED nodes effortlessly.
  • Integrate via MQTT with third-party global platforms like Blynk.
  • Scale your project from a single node to a complex industrial network.

Key Specifications

  • Configuration: 4 digital inputs, 2 NPN digital outputs, 2 SPST (1 Form A) relays
  • Isolation: individual galvanic isolation per channel, 3750Vrms dielectric strength
  • Digital inputs: up to 36VDC; logic thresholds 0–2V (logical "1"), 4–36V (logical "0")
  • Digital outputs: NPN Darlington power transistors, up to 8A (16A peak) at up to 48VDC, 20W max dissipation
  • Relays: Panasonic APAN3105 or Hongfa HF49FD, SPST (1 Form A), 5A at 250VAC/30VDC
  • Interrupt support: input state changes can trigger an INT signal via the HOST connector
  • GPIO Mode: inputs/outputs/relays controlled via AP0–AP7 signals on the HOST-P connector
  • I²C Mode: controlled via I²C using the onboard I/O expander (TCA9534 or compatible); up to 16 modules on one bus
  • Hybrid control: some channels via HOST-P GPIO, others via the I²C expander, simultaneously
  • Connectors: HOST-P10 or HOST-P12, Qwiic × 2
  • Status indication: per-channel digital I/O and relay status LEDs
  • Size: 47 × 56 mm, with mounting holes for base-module or Raspberry Pi installation

Operation Modes

🔌 Standalone
Input states, output control, and relay control are available through the HOST connector, or via the I²C bus using the onboard I/O expander.
🧠 Smart
An IoTsmart module is inserted into the HOST connector. I/O control and the 5V module supply are provided through HOST, powered from the IoTsmart module.
🏗 Mezzanine
The module is installed into an IoTbase carrier board. I/O control and the 5V module supply are provided through HOST.

Applications

🏭 Industrial Automation (Conveyor Belt Control)
Transistor outputs provide start/reverse signals to a VFD, while relays switch a signal tower or an electromagnetic brake.
🔔 IIoT (Machine Status Monitoring)
Digital inputs monitor safety sensors (e-stops, light curtains); relays provide galvanic isolation for the remote emergency shutdown circuit.
🌱 Smart Farming (Greenhouse Automation)
Inputs monitor water levels and light intensity; relays activate irrigation pumps or heaters, transistor outputs drive ventilation flaps.
🏠 Smart Home (Entrance Access Control)
Inputs connect to gate sensors and doorbell buttons; relays operate the electric strike lock and exterior lighting, transistor outputs trigger an alarm buzzer.
