DESCRIPTION

Ecosystem & Integration

This module is a member of the loTextra series, which serves as a fundamental building block of our ecosystem and embodies the Make Things Happy Philosophy. It is engineered to bridge the gap between rapid prototyping and industrial-grade reliability.

Hardware Synergy: The module is compatible with both IoTsmart and IoTbase series.

Software Power: This hardware compatibility unlocks the full potential of the IoTflow platform. It enables you to:

  • Create custom Node-RED nodes effortlessly.
  • Integrate via MQTT with third-party global platforms like Blynk.
  • Scale your project from a single node to a complex industrial network.

Key Features

  • Flexible 4+2+2 Configuration: Includes 4 digital inputs, 2 NPN digital outputs, and 2 SPST (1 Form A) relays.
  • Industrial-Grade Isolation: All digital channels feature individual galvanic isolation with a dielectric strength of 3750 Vrms.
  • High-Voltage Input: Digital input signals can handle a maximum level of up to 36 VDC.
  • High-Power Switching: NPN Darlington Power Transistor outputs support up to 8A (16A peak) at voltages up to 100VDC.
  • Maximum DO Load: 8A / 100VDC / 20W.
  • Relay Configuration: 2 SPST (1 Form A) Panasonic APAN3105 or Hongfa HF49FD relays.
  • Relay Switching Capacity: 5A at 250VAC / 30VDC.
  • Logic Thresholds: 0–2V (Logical "1"), 4–36V (Logical "0").
  • Interrupt Support: Input state changes can trigger an interrupt (INT) via the HOST connector.
  •  Status Indication: The status of the digital channels is clearly indicated on the module.

Flexible Operation Modes

The IoTextra Octal operate via direct GPIO signals or through the I²C bus using the onboard TCA9534 expander.

You can connect up to 16 modules to a single bus. Furthermore, a hybrid mode is possible, allowing you to use the AP0-AP7 signals for some channels and the I/O expander for the rest.

Compact Design

The module's compact size of 47x56 mm and integrated mounting holes allow for easy installation in a base module or a Raspberry Pi.

Applications

  • Industrial Automation: Control conveyor belts by using transistor outputs for Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) signals while relays manage electromagnetic brakes.
  • Machine Monitoring (IIoT): Use digital inputs for safety sensors (e-stops) and relays for remote emergency shutdown circuits.
  • Smart Farming: Monitor water levels via inputs and activate irrigation pumps or heaters with the onboard relays.
  • Entrance Control: Connect doorbell buttons to inputs and operate electric strike locks via relays.

Hardware Compatibility

The module features a HOST-P connector designed for three primary use cases:

  1. Standalone: Connect via HOST-P10/P12 cables or Qwiic I²C connectors.
  2. Smart Use: Vertically insert an IoTsmart microcontroller (ESP32-S3, RP2350, RP2040, or XIAO) directly into the module.
  3. Mezzanine Use: Install the Octal module into an IoTbase carrier board for expanded system capabilities.
