DESCRIPTION

The IoTbase PICO carrier module is specifically designed to seamlessly integrate Raspberry Pi PICO form-factor modules, mezzanine modules and mikroBUS™ modules.

This module features a PICO slot (connectors P1 and P2) tailored for Raspberry Pi PICO format modules. For example, the following PICO-compatible modules:

  • Raspberry PICO, PICO W, PICO2, PICO2 WM
  • Compatible modules based on RP2040 and RP2350 from Waveshare and Pimoroni
  • Raspberry Pi PICO form factor modules with ESP32-S3 and ESP32-С6 microcontrollers from Waveshare

Additionally, it can accommodate a 47x56mm IoTextra series mezzanine module using a 12-pin connector. This connector uses I2C signals and eight GPIO signals.

The IoTbase PICO module includes an M1 connector with mikroBUS™ contacts and two mikroBUS™ auxiliary slots (M2 and M3). However, these auxiliary slots are covered when a mezzanine module is installed.

To enhance configurability and user data storage, the IoTbase PICO module incorporates an EEPROM with a capacity of either 8 Kbit (1024x8 bits, M24C08 or compatible) or 64 Kbit (8192x8 bits, M24C64 or compatible). The default I2C address for the EEPROM is 1010111x, and users can modify this address using jumpers on the bottom side of the module.

To use the I2C interface, the module is equipped with two Qwiic© connectors for seamless communication with other modules through the I2C bus. These connectors support the integration of external devices and sensors, with the option to enable pull-up resistors for I2C as needed.

Additionally, the IoTbase PICO module offers optional support for the RS-485 protocol, featuring a chip compatible with popular half-duplex RS-485 transceivers. Speed – up to 10Mbps.

The module has a watchdog, but it is disabled by default.

The module includes three FFC/FPC Connectors:

  • 40-pin - for intermodule connections, for example - with other IoTbase modules)
  • 18-pin - for connection to screens, including direct connection of EYESPI screens from Adafruit
  • 12-pin - for transmitting signals from the HOST connector (connector for communication with mezzanines), for example for indicating these signals using LED

The input power for the IoTbase PICO module is non-isolated, ranging from 9VDC to 36VDC. This power can be supplied via a 2-pin 3.5mm pitch terminal block connector. These two connectors cannot be installed on the IoTbase PICO at the same time, the terminal block is used by default. The module also supports power input at 5VDC via the USB connector.

The input voltage (9VDC to 36VDC) is converted to 5VDC by a converter, with the maximum current depending on the type of converter installed (1A, 2A, or 3A). The default configuration includes a 1A converter. Additionally, the module features a DC-DC converter (5VDC → 3.3VDC) with a maximum current of 1A.

Given its dimensions of 85 x 56 mm, the module aligns with the popular Raspberry Pi B+ board format, facilitating seamless integration with Raspberry Pi projects.

The IoTbase PICO module finds application in various industries, including but not limited to:

  • Industry and Transport
  • Environmental Monitoring
  • Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) and PLC
  • Smart Home
  • Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC)
  • Power On/Off
  • Consumer Electronics and Devices
  • Game Application
